Community Banks To Be Early Adopters of Wearable Apps
April 14 – Malauzai Software, a provider of mobile and Internet banking apps, says it is working with eight community banks and credit unions to have an Apple Watch app live for the April 24 launch.
SmartwearApps for the Apple Watch will enable mobile banking users who own an Apple Watch to check balances, view transaction history for all available accounts and access a branch locator using the technology. The SmartwearApp is available in English and Spanish and provides banks with a screen for advertising and educational alerts.
“We are certain that watch banking will be one of the ‘killer apps’ when the Apple Watch launches,” said Robb Gaynor, chief product officer of Malauzai. “That’s why it’s important for community banks to be among the early adopters of this type of innovation.”
Community banks working with Malauzai to launch Smartwear apps include Ameriana Bank, New Castle, Ind.; BankMobile, a division of Customers Bank in Wyomissing, Penn.; First United Bank in Dimmit, Texas; and Happy State Bank in Happy, Texas.
It’s worth noting that Apple Watch, which ranges in price from $349 to $17,000, is not the only smartwatch on the market. Google’s Android Wear version is available as well. Redwood City-based Digital Insight, an NCR company and developer of digital banking solutions, announced recently that it has released Android smartwatch functionality with Dayton, Ohio-based Wright-Patterson Credit Union.
